How to find Maximum?

In excel, we have numerous functions that can work out formulae in a fraction of a second. One such is the ‘maximum’ function. It finds the maximum value from the input that we provide to this formula. For example, consider the sales figures made by different employees for the month of January. It is really difficult to pull the maximum value if the employees are larger in number. Here comes the use of this formula and you can easily pick the maximum value from the list.

 How to use Maximum of excel? The general template of the function is as below.

=Max(Data_Range_Start_cell:Data_Range_End_cell)

How to find Minimum?

As you guessed, this function picks the minimum value from the input range of data. The minimum function can be used in a similar manner as how we use the Maximum. Of course, the only difference is the actual function that you are going to type! Yes, use ‘Min’ instead of ‘Max’ and you are done! Is it very simple, right? Just go ahead and try it for your data. How to Count values?

Counting is the process of finding how many data that you are dealing with. You can count the number of employees, raw materials, or whatever you wish! It is a great function to be on the track of how many data or items that you require or use in your day-to-day business. Again it is very simpler to use the function and also I am going to tell you another good thing about it. It never counts blank cells when your data is a number! So if you had left a cell or row without any data by mistake, then it is not going to affect your count result!

=Count(Data_Range_Start_cell:Data_Range_End_cell)

Step-1: Type the function as shown below.

How to find Total or Sum?

Most shop owners take a lot of time to wind up their work in finding the accurate total sales, the total amount spent for raw materials on that day, etc. This Sum function is there to simplify their jobs and we will teach you how to use it!

How to use Sum of excel? The general template of the function is as below.

=Sum(Data_Range_Start_cell:Data_Range_End_cell)

Step-1: Type the function and highlight the data range as shown below.

How to find Percentage?

This functional can tell you the average sale in your shop for each day, week, month, or year. By using it, you can track your net figures and can concentrate more on marketing if required. But before using this function we need the sum of the values out of which we are going to find the average of a particular value.

How to use Average of excel? The general template of the function is as below.

+Individual_value/Total_value

So to find the average sale for January, you need to use as below.

+January_sale/Year_sale

Just press Enter, you can see the percentage as 4% for the above case.

Unlike other formulae, when we copy-paste this average formula to other cells it won’t work! Just look at the errors.


 

Because in this case the January_sale corresponds to cell B15 and Year-sale corresponds to cell N15.

When it is copied for the month of February, the cell C15 is considered as the February_sale and cell O15 is considered as Year-sale. But we need to fix the cell N15 as the year_sale.


 

To do so, we need to use the referencing symbol – ‘$’.

Now the template with the fixed total_value would be like

+B15/$N$15

$N – to fix the column.

$15 – to fix the row.
